Discover Morocco in 8 Days Tour (Marrakech to the Sahara Desert)

Day 1: Marrakesh – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate.

Departs at 8:30 from your Raid or Hotel in Marrakech direction South-East to cross the high Atlas Mountains. After the Tizi n’Tichka pass, you leave the main road and take a side road to the village of Telouet to visit the Kasbah which was a former residence of the Glaoui Family Residence.

The valley we are driving through was an important road for the caravans of traders. We continue along the stunningly beautiful road to Ait Ben Haddou where we have lunch. This is the most famous fortified Kasbah in Southern Morocco and is listed by UNESCO world heritage site. After lunch, we visit the Kasbah. This has been used as a backdrop for many Hollywood films. Then to Ouarzazate or African Hollywood as many actors call this small city

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Valley of the Roses – Todgha Gorge.

Departure from Ouarzazate and drive along the Valley of the Roses, then to Dades Valley by the road of 1000 kasbah to get to the Todgha Gorge which is to most famous natural gorge in Northern Africa. We walk through the gorge and will also have the opportunity to meet nomad people who fetch water from the gorge. Overnight in a hotel in the gorge.

Day 3: Todgha Gorge – Merzouga

In the morning we visit the Souk of Tinghir and continue down south through landscapes which are most different and colorful. Lunch in a small village called Tinjdad. We cross many Berber villages before arriving at the Sahara Desert of Erg Chebbi. At the village of Merzouga, we continue by camel for a ride for about one hour through the sand dunes to reach the camp where we will overnight in a Berber tent enjoying a splendid sunset on top of one of the dunes and listen to Berber music while watching the sky full of stars.

Day 4: Merzouga – Tamsahlte (Berber village)

Wake up early to see the sunrise from the dunes, then by camel back to the Kasbah of Merzouga for breakfast and showers. Departure from Merzouga passing Rissani and direction Ouest to arrive at the old village of Tazarine to visit the Souk. Then heading to Tamhsahelt village 20 km further from Tazarine. Spend the night in a Riad and share some traditions things with local Berber people from the village.

Day 5 : Tamsahelt – Draa Valley – Zagora

After breakfast we have a walking tour in the village to discover the lifestyle of the Berber people in the desert. Then departure from the village heading to N’kob, the village of 45 kasbahs where we have a coffee break while enjoying splendid views of the village. Continue off-road to the Valley of the Draa stopping at the village of Tamnougalt that is located in the northern part of the valley for lunch. In the afternoon we cross the beautiful valley from north to south to reach Zagora, the last city in the Draa Valley. With its 240 km, this is is the longest one in Morocco. The valley is also famous for the excellent quality of the dates which are exported throughout Morocco.

Day 6: Zagora – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga

Departure from Zagora in the morning driving to the village of Tamgrout where we have a stop for visiting the manufactory of the pottery. We drive further to Mhamid which is the last village on the road. We continue another 60 km off-road through a different kind of desert of sand and rocks. We will camp in the middle of the dunes of Erg Chegaga and enjoy the nice moment of sunset and spend another starry night in a Berber nomad tent.

Day 7: Chegaga – Taliouine

After breakfast in the desert, we drive another 90 km through the desert to arrive at the village of Foum Zguid where the road begins again. At Taznakht we have lunch. The village is famous for Berber carpets. In the afternoon we drive between the High and Anti Atlas and stop at Taliouine, the village of Safran where we overnight in a Guest House.

Day 8: Taliouine – Tizi n’ Test – Marrakesh

Drive from Taliouine to pass Taroudant, in the Souss Valley. Taroudant is also called “Small Marrakesh”. Then up through the High Atlas to approach the Tizi n Test pass with an altitude of 2093 m. From this point, you have magnificent views over the dramatic rocks and valleys, and an ideal place for a photo stop and a refreshment. Then drive down to the northern part of the High Atlas into the Ourika valley for lunch. In the afternoon drive back to Marrakesh where we arrive before dark.
