If dinosaurs can only be seen on TV and in museums; this one is the live creature that has a close relation to the dinosaurs. The famous Komodo can only be found in Komodo Island, Indonesia, and become the largest habitat for Komodo in the world. In 2011, Komodo Island was appointed as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature by the New Seven Wonder Organization in America. These nearly extinct animals live under the conservation of Komodo National Park and are protected under Indonesian law as reserved animals.

About the Island

Komodo Island is the one and only island which still has a prehistoric track of dinosaurs. This little archipelago consists of three big main islands and 175 smaller islands. The three main big islands are Komodo Island, Rinca Island, and Padar Island, and the smaller islands which are the original habitat of Komodo. Besides, there are lots of endemic flora and fauna as well as aquatic creatures. The visitors of Komodo Island can do a much interesting activities such as diving and snorkeling because this island is surrounded by beautiful beaches. There are some places that open for tourism objects such as:

1. Loh Liang in Komodo Island

This place is the main entrance to Komodo Island. Right in this place, visitors can find resorts, shelters, and tourism information centers. Most people who come to this island arrange their activities here such as hiking, snorkeling, or diving. One of the famous diving and snorkeling spots is in Pink Beach. This beach is famous for its underwater beauty and the pink deserted sand. There are also fishing villages in the south of Loh Liang.

2. Loh Buaya in Rinca Island

As a part of Komodo National Park, Rinca Island is the main habitat for Komodo and other wild animals such as Timor deer, wild buffalo, long tail monkey, and wild horse. When walking around Rinca Island, there are “jagawana” as the wildlife keepers who will accompany the visitors. To reach the Komodo habitat, the visitors have to hike Mount Ara for about 3-4 hours. There is already a trekking track to get there. From Rinca Island, visitors can visit Kalong Island in the afternoon to see the endemic bats in huge numbers which are out to hunt for food.

3. Padar Island

This Island is located between Komodo Island and Rinca Island which is famous for amazing diving and snorkeling in Komodo National Park. The total spots on this island are 42 spots; the famous among them are Batu Samsia and Batu Toko-Toko.
