Ouarzazate, where different cultures and crafts merge, is the starting point of the oasis route. The city was founded in 1982 as a military residence and became later the administrative center of the Draa region.
Upon leaving the town, on the way to Er Rachidia, the kasbah of Taouirirt attracts the attention of the traveler, who is astonished at so much beauty. This monument is so well known as some scenes from movies were filmed here. With the ultimate award of the fact that UNESCO has added this kasbah to the world heritage of mankind. Another attraction, which is much more recent, is the film studios. Since the 1960s, more and more filmmakers came to Ouarzazate to use the many natural sceneries and the quality of light in famous movies.
