Additional Info

In Marrakech, it is impossible to ignore the beautiful snow-capped peaks of the 4,167-meter mountains that glitter like a diadem above the red city. Especially at sunset, the landscape is truly unique when the High Atlas Mountains are bathed in a color palette of red.

On the banks of rivers meandering through valleys, villages are clustered opposite fortified houses, near cultivated land shaded by many fruit trees. On the eastern side of the High Atlas, plateaus extend to the horizon. Sheep and goats graze on these plateaus from spring to early fall.

Asni is a Berber village at an altitude of 1150 m at the foot of the High Atlas Mountains near Marrakech. The High Atlas is considered to be the highest mountain in North Africa. Moulay Brahim is 5 km from Asni. The village is charming with its narrow streets. It is famous for a festive season that takes place a week or two after the celebration of the birthday of the Muslim prophet.

In addition, the road to Imlil passes through beautiful mountain valleys and pretty villages built here with floors as usual. In general, the villages are more interesting and the Berbers are friendly and are happy to offer you a cup of tea in the hope of having a good conversation. Imlil is also a hub for trekking to Toubkal National Park and climbing to the top of the mountain.

Above the village of Oumnas, you can see some interesting old kasbahs surrounded by olive groves. You will then cross a bridge over the river N’fiss and arrive at the dam of Lalla-Takerkoust. Located just a few kilometers from Marrakech, this lake is an ideal place to escape the strong summer heat and crowds of Marrakech. It was built during the French protectorate period in the 1920s and it was called the Cavagnac Dam. Lalla-Takerkoust is a manmade lake with a length of 7 kilometers. In addition, the landscape on the shore of this beautiful lake is completely different, set against the backdrop of the vast desert plains of the Atlas Mountains. For adventurers, it is a great place for water sports and starting point for several 4×4 tracks.
